Educational Needs of Rural Nurses when Entering Practice

Purpose: The purpose of this integrative review is to identify the educational needs rural nurses and strategies that have been effective in meeting those education needs. Sample: literature search yielded 1388 articles be screened after 930 duplicates were removed. Two researchers by title abstract full-text review, yielding ten articles. Four qualitative, four quantitative two studies mixed methods. Method: An using Whittemore Knafl’s method was conducted. CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE Scopus databases searched. Studies about registered nurses' practice from Canada, United States Australia included as these countries are geographically large with areas at a distance larger, urban centres. Inductive content analysis used develop themes. Findings: themes needs, delivery, barriers developed data analysis. Educational well established, although multiple impede access education. Various delivery methods attempted; it unclear which most effective. Conclusions: Rural must continue advocate for opportunities specific their demands related working within context.
